Residency at Ferry Wood August 2024

For two weeks in August 2024 I was artist in residence at Ferry Wood temperate rainforest in south Knapdale. Ferry Wood is a 40 acre woodland Carina and Ed have been working hard to restore for the last 7 years. Most of the work is removing non native rhodadendron growth to create a welcoming environment for native oak to flourish. In my time with them I learnt so much about the areas biodiverity, its environmental precarity, its history. When the weather was good I spent my time walking and painting snd drawing en plein air in the woods and when it rained I worked on patchwork paintings of the forst floor, thinking about how to communicate its rich colour, a deep reddish pink the product of many layers of undistubed life and decay.
